{"id":3290,"date":"2020-04-26T19:33:36","date_gmt":"2020-04-26T18:33:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midnightblue-snail-644681.hostingersite.com\/?p=1634"},"modified":"2020-04-26T19:33:36","modified_gmt":"2020-04-26T18:33:36","slug":"learning-to-be-better-teachers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mariamunozroca.com\/en\/learning-to-be-better-teachers\/","title":{"rendered":"LEARNING TO BE BETTER TEACHERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>These days are being a magnificent opportunity to reflect and to learn to be better teachers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">I really want to share my experience this past Wednesday the 22nd with T\u00c1NDEM Professores, an educational consultancy, an innovative company formed by a team of magnificent Professionals who improve teaching in Chile.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">How it all started?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">On Monday, April 13, T\u00e1ndem teachers proposed a new Challenge to me: interview me in front of a group of teachers from Chile interested in providing more value to their students. It was a proposal from my surprising UAB student, Marita Correa, who has returned to her native Chile after completing the Master of Psychocreativity in Barcelona, which gave us the opportunity to get to know each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">Of course I accepted the Challenge, I prepared and we connected via Zoom at 5:00 p.m. (Spanish time), 11:00 a.m. (Chilean time)!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">We met in our Virtual Caf\u00e9, 60 teachers from different areas, to question ourselves <strong>how to provide value to our students in this situation that we are experiencing worldwide.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">This virtual reunion was possible thanks to 21st century technology and confinement...<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What were the Interview questions?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">In an hour-long interview, Marita asked me the following questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">How should we approach the teaching and learning process given the contingency?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">What does this year bring us and what can we gain\/learn?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">How to lead students through virtual and online Communication?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">How can we make our audience, the students, feel more important?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">What to say and what not to say to our students?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">How to achieve dynamism in virtual classes?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">How to continue motivating the student?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">As you can see, they were questions aimed at encouraging the student and accompanying him at all times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>And what were the answers and conclusions?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">With the support of all participants, since we did a \u201cmulti-interactive\u201d interview, we pointed out the following conclusions:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">1.The current year offers us great opportunities to enrich our students. It is a different year, where learning goes beyond curricular subjects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">2. We must work and enrich students with the 6 C&#039;s of Confinement:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">2.1. <strong>Grow<\/strong>. Helping them face new situations and manage uncertainty will help them grow now and in the future, personally and academically.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">2.2.<strong>To collaborate<\/strong>. Now more than ever we all have to come together to collaborate: teachers, students, parents and institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">2.3. <strong>Share<\/strong>. Countries are facing this crisis by sharing their experiences, their knowledge and their resources. In the education sector, we must also share our ideas, our proposals and our creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">2.4. <strong>Communicate<\/strong>. The 21st century offers us numerous communication channels that bring us closer to our audience without leaving home: videoconferencing, social networks, WhatsApp groups... Let&#039;s empathetically choose the best channel to be in tune with our students based on their profile, let&#039;s adapt to their needs and let&#039;s learn from them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">2.5. <strong>Know<\/strong>. It is a stage of greater self-knowledge, of being aware of how we face new situations and of personal, social and cultural knowledge. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">2.6. <strong>Rely<\/strong>. In the educational field we must generate trust by demonstrating by example how to manage uncertainty, plan, find solutions and execute them. And also trust more in the people around us. Teachers must act proactively, providing value to our students every day. We form a team with the students! It is time to see each other&#039;s faces, listen to each other more, show, ask and generate debate. We need to see people, smile at them, express ourselves to the fullest. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">4. Adapting to the new needs of our students is the key. They are the protagonists. Let&#039;s listen to your opinions, your concerns and be flexible. It is a moment of 360 degree empathy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">5. Now we must prioritize knowledge that is useful to face the current situation, which will serve them for the present and, above all, for the future. Let us refresh and update the contents of our subjects every year to motivate ourselves and to show our vocation to serve our students. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">6. It is time to enhance interaction, ask them what they need, what they think, what they propose and above all, listen to them, so that they signify wanting to learn. In virtual classes, let&#039;s use interaction icons, encourage students to connect their cameras, and allow them to share their experiences. Let&#039;s avoid one-way classes and encourage dialogue. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">7. Students are excited to return to face-to-face classes. When the time comes they will be more motivated than ever to go to their schools. Now we must also &quot;turn on&quot; this motivation by enhancing the emotional bond and helping them understand the current situation, giving them confidence and tranquility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">Let&#039;s remember to value the people we live with, value our environment and value ourselves. It is the best way to be motivated and work for a better, more flexible and more open education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\">Thanks @Tandemprofesores.
