🎯 Dare to have difficult conversations

Difficult Conversations_Maria Muñoz Roca 2024

We all face difficult conversations both inside and outside companies.
🔎 The important thing is identify them and, above all, dare to approach them.

First of all, I want to give a giant applause 👏 to the #FoundationAred for their invaluable work in society.
Our participants demonstrated how their work is helping to integrate people at risk of social exclusion into the workforce. A million thanks! 💖

🚀 The first step: Identify and confront Difficult Conversations

Difficult conversations must be carefully prepared in order to be successfully overcome.

These are not conversations we have every day. They respond to very specific needs. Being alert to our surroundings is essential.

During the day with @Fundación Ared and @Cambra de Barcelona:
✅ We explore different scripts to dialogue with respect and proactivity.
✅ We learned to avoid complaining and focus on finding solutions win-win.

💡 Why is it so important to confront them?

💬 When we go around a topic, we complicate it.
📚 When We provide too much information, we confuse.
🚪 When We avoid a difficult conversation, we are missing an opportunity for improvement.

👉 Being brave and direct (with respect) is the key.

🔑 4 keys to resolving difficult conversations

1️⃣ Start on a positive note 🌟
Value your interlocutor's strengths. This creates trust and opens doors.

2️⃣ Get to the point 🧭
Explain clearly what you need. Be direct, but also empathetic.

3️⃣ Always dialogue 🤝
Ask the other person for their opinion. Listening is just as important as talking.

4️⃣ Agree
Find a solution that benefits both parties. Remember: win-win is the goal.

🔄Examples of difficult conversations in the company

1️⃣ Giving negative feedback 🗣️🔍
«I want to talk to you about how to improve your project delivery times.»

2️⃣ Request a salary increase 💰🤝
«I would like to review my salary based on my responsibilities and results.»

3️⃣ Resolving a conflict between colleagues ⚡🤔
"I've noticed that there are tensions within the team; can we talk to understand what is happening and resolve it?"

4️⃣ Refusing a request ❌📄
«Unfortunately, I cannot accept this change to the project because it will affect the deadlines.»

5️⃣ Talking about a layoff 💼🔚
"We need to talk about your performance and the decision we've made regarding your continuity."

6️⃣ Claim unfulfilled commitments ⏳🛑
"I want to talk about this pending report; we need to move forward within the agreed deadlines."

7️⃣ Managing a complaint from an internal or external customer 📞😡
“We have received this feedback from the customer. What actions can we take to resolve it?”

8️⃣ Set limits on workload 🚧📋
“I need to talk about my workload; I think it is affecting the quality of my deliverables.”

9️⃣ Ask a leader or superior for responsibilities 📈⚖️
"There are certain decisions that are not clear; can we work on better communication?"

🔟 Talking about organizational changes 🔄🏢
“We want to talk about how this change will affect the teams and how we will manage the transition.”
